New Scout Information

Welcome New Scout,

Welcome to Troop 97! The Boy Scout program has a lot to offer you during this exciting time of your life. Welcome to the adventure. As you know by now, Troop meetings are on Tuesdays from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at Morningside Presbyterian Church in Fullerton. Come dressed in your Scout shirt, pants, belt and socks. Due to limited time during the meetings, work on as many requirements at home as you can. Bring your Scout Handbook to the meetings. (Be sure your name is in your book as they all look alike.) To get the requirements signed off, demonstrate your knowledge of the requirement to any senior Scout, Assistant Scoutmaster, or Scoutmaster. Troop meetings are planned and run by the senior Scouts. The senior patrol leader will actually run the Troop meeting. Look toward the various senior Scouts for help. Don't be bashful!

Backpacking Equipment

When you get into backpacking (and we hope he will), you will need a good sleeping bag, backpack, hiking boots, etc. We recommend good quality equipment that will last you a lifetime. Borrowing equipment is a good to get started. With membership in Troop 97 you get one free copy of the "Equipment Guide for Weekend Hikes" which is published by the Troop. Please consult this guide before buying any equipment. Don't rush into expensive equipment purchases. Having the right equipment will make backpacking more fun for you.

Expectations

As a member of Troop 97 some things are expected of you. Basically, you are expected to:

bullet HAVE FUN!
bullet Attend most meetings
bullet Participate in a majority of events
bullet Make steady progress toward rank
bullet Wear your Scout uniform at the appropriate times
bullet Maintain self control and follow directions

A Word on Behavior

When behavior problems occur during a Troop meeting, they will be deal with according to a discipline plan that has been established by the ranking Scouts. By maintaining order during the meetings everyone gets more out of them. Just so you know ahead of time, here is the plan the Scouts have established.

Discipline Plan

1st time Warning
2nd time Warning - Sit outside or away from the meeting
3rd time Talk to the Scoutmaster
4th time Talk to Scouts parents
5th time You are asked not to come to meetings until you will behave
